Ensure business continuity and IT disaster recovery

Protect your network during outages and failures

From natural disasters to minor disruptions, every network is vulnerable to risk. While most business continuity and IT disaster recovery plans focus on protecting the data center, your plans should also ensure server availability and access to the business-critical apps, data, and collaboration tools that keep the business running.

IT needs a performance-driven network that will prioritize application traffic over the best link possible, ensuring that your apps always perform well—even during an outage. SD-WAN measures latency, jitter, loss, and congestion to ensure your critical applications use the best performing links in real time. Monitoring the application performance and link conditions is key to identifying potential problems and quickly resolving them.

In the event link conditions degrade or experience outages, Citrix SD-WAN automatically redirects traffic to the remaining best available connections. In fact, the experience is so seamless, users won’t even realize any change has occurred. Their primary access IP address will remain unchanged, allowing users to access their apps and data using the same methods and devices. Citrix SD-WAN automatically redirects traffic across available connections in real time.

Voice, HDX and SCADA traffic don’t use a lot of bandwidth but are sensitive to loss, which disrupts the user experience. SD-WAN gives you the option to duplicate packets across two different links simultaneously, ensuring that each packet takes the fastest possible path so there is no loss. Even if one link fails, the other copy will successfully arrive at the other end.

An increase in users, applications, video, SaaS and big data are all driving the demand for more bandwidth on WAN links. Adding bandwidth to an existing link will not solve other kinds of problems, like poor conditions of the link or outages. With Citrix SD-WAN, multiple disparate links, including MPLS, broadband and 4G/LTE, are logically bonded together to increase bandwidth through aggregation. This also ensures that all links are active and link conditions are monitored in real time for any degradation.

A Quality of Experience dashboard displays a complete view into HDX session quality to provide visibility into the user experience. View the number of users, sessions, and link conditions to ensure optimal workspace user experience in the branch. Additionally, customizable dashboards give insight into virtual path conditions, application traffic trends, and MOS scoring - all in a centralized location.

Citrix SD-WAN appliances continuously monitor every MPLS and broadband connection by tagging packets with sequence numbers. Destination appliances can detect path outages after just two or three missing packets, allowing seamless sub-second failover of traffic to the next-best WAN path. Users are never forced to restart, reconnect, or log in to virtual sessions or applications again. Appliances also detect immediately when connections come back online, and seamlessly return traffic to the restored paths.
